How did the tradition of worshipping Mercury begin?
In ancient India, trade, knowledge, and calculation were considered the greatest powers in life.
Sages observed that on certain days, mental clarity and decision-making abilities were heightened—which they attributed to the energy of Mercury.
In the Puranas, Mercury is described as the son of Chandra (the Moon) and Tara, symbolizing knowledge and wisdom.
Since then, the worship of Mercury began for education, trade, and mental development.
Kings and merchants would perform Mercury worship before making important decisions to avoid mistakes.
What problems arise when Mercury is weak?
When Mercury is inauspicious in a person's horoscope, they experience problems such as:
• Lack of concentration in studies
• Making wrong decisions
• Losses in business
• Being cheated repeatedly
• Hesitation in speaking
• Mental confusion
This is known as Mercury defect (Budh Dosha).
